Cuba has launched its own online encyclopedia similar to Wikipedia to present the world and the history from its own point of view so that people across the globe could know not only the truth shown by developed “capitalist” countries but also the truth of underdeveloped happy communist nations. It describes its longtime ideological enemy, the United States, as "the empire of our time" and "the most powerful nation of all time."

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation demanded the popular online encyclopedia to stop showing high-resolution image of its seal saying it violates the federal law and could be misused my miscreants to create fake documents, as reported by the New York Times. In the letter sent to Wikipedia the FBI says: "Unauthorized reproduction or use of the FB I Seal is prohibited by 18 United States Code, Section 701, which provides:

 Americans do not like Facebook! This conclusion can be drawn from the recent merican Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI) E-Business Report, produced in partnership with ForeSee Results. Facebook scored 64 on the ACSI’s 100-point scale, which puts its satisfaction even lower than IRS e-filers. This puts Facebook in the bottom 5% of all measured private sector companies and in the same range as airlines and cable companies, two perennially low-scoring industries with terrible customer satisfaction. 

In a move to make the experience for visitors and contributors better and easier, Wikimedia Foundation has accomplished a number of changes of its Wikipedia portal, one of the most popular throughout the world.

A new study from communications regulator Ofcom shows that ¼ of children in the United Kingdom at the age of 8-12 surfing the Internet have their own profiles on Facebook, Bebo or MySpace while the minimum age for subscribing for these services is 13. The study reveals that 2/5 of young users aged 8-11 and 12-15 believe that all or most of the information on these sites is true (38% and 40% respectively). The research further shows that over the past year downloading or watching TV episodes or movies online by children aged 8-15 has grown by 4%.

Google donates the Wikimedia Foundation an amount of $2 million. The Foundation funds Wikipedia in various languages, Wikiquote, Wikibooks and other projects. The non-for-profit organization has 33 employees in its staff and in 2009 the foundation was donated more than $6 million. While Google’s gift will cover Wikipedia's expenses for some time there is still problems the site faces as the number of footsoldiers willing to edit the site for free is declining.

 Wikipedia is sued by a murderer who committed a disgusting manslaughter of a famous German actor Walter Sedlmayr. Attorneys took legal actions against the online encyclopedia on behalf of Wolfgang Werlé, one of two men to receive a life sentence for the 1990 murder of Sedlmayr.

 Wikipedia founder announced this week that he concluded an agreement with a computer maker HP to enable users to create and print magazines. Under this partnership users will be allowed to create and print their own magazines using Wiki content. The main idea behind the project is to personalize the wealth of information on the Internet. "We are doing all kinds of things like that to think about ways to sustain this idea of participatory culture," said Jimmy Wales, founder of the user-edited Wikipedia.

Wikimedia Foundation announced the availability of its new 'Wikipedia Mobile' application for iPhones which can be downloaded from Apple's App Store for free. The software allows users to quickly and easily access masses of information from their mobile devices.

The research conducted by the blog UberCEO.com looked at Fortune's 2009 list of the top 100 CEOs to determine how many were using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Wikipedia, or had a blog and found they were mostly absent from the rapidly growing social media community. Only two CEOs had Twitter accounts and 81 percent of CEOs did not have a personal Facebook page.

It was declared that the Wikimedia Foundation will be changing the terms of its licenses on the content in Wikipedia to Creative Commons Attribution/Share-Alike License (CC-BY-SA), with the aim of simplifying the process of re-using the content on Wikipedia and its other sites.The decision has already been approved by Wikimedia's Board of Trustees.

According to researchers it is a good point if doctors write and edit a Wikipedia encyclopedia. As in Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association written Wikipedia becomes a major online source of information for people, and doctors should recognize that fact. The research was conducted by contributors of Wikipedia Michael R. Laurent, a medical student at Catholic University of Leuven, Belgium, and Tim J. Vickers, a post-doctoral researcher at Washington University in St. Louis.

Revenue and Customs is denying tax privileges that go with charity status to Wiki UK Ltd., or Wikimedia UK. Thus UK tax man denies Wikipedia UK charity status. As Wikipedia claims to be "disseminating knowledge", Wiki UK requested the operating company should obtain charitable tax perks. The company is aiming to aid and encourage people to collect, develop and effectively disseminate knowledge and other educational, cultural and historic content in the public domain or under a license that allows everyone to freely use, distribute and modify content.
