Second-largest Chinese wireless carrier China Unicom is warming up to carve a niche in the Android cell phone market, as the carrier introduces the first batch of its customized Android handsets (under the “Uphone moniker) in January 2010. However, the official release date has not been confirmed by the Chinese operator.

RCA says it is encouraged by Verizon`s handset proposal but not satisfied

The trade group said in a statement that the Rural Cellular Association, encouraged by Verizon Wireless's most recent exclusive handset proposal, will continue to pursue modifications to the policy.Last week Verizon Wireless said that it would limit new exclusive handset agreements to six months, after which it would allow wireless providers with fewer than 500,000 customers to service the devices.

Gemalto and mChek joined forces to offer secured mobile banking solutions


Gemalto and India-based mChek have joined forces with the aim of offering a wider range of secured mobile banking solutions available on Gemalto SIM cards in South Asian markets. The two companies have been partnering since September 2008 over such areas as introduction of a convenient mobile top-up service, where customers can recharge anywhere, anytime for themselves and others.
