Apple adds new feature to Lion OS X that could threaten Google’s Chromebook

New iteration of Apple’s operating system for desktops would include that a feature to allow quick access to the Internet surfing without logging back to the system when it is locked.
Apple is introducing to its new coming OS X Lion desktop OS a browser-only mode called "Restart to Safari.” With this feature appearing as an option on Lion's lock screen users will be able to access to a sandboxed version of the Safari browser. However, users won’t access their desktop applications or other files from this mode.

Mozilla Firefox 4 outstrips Internet Explorer 9 by 16% to 5%

Mozilla’s latest Firefox 4 browser is sweepingly outpacing Microsoft Internet Explorer 9 even though there is still time before the open source company will introduce an automatic update to its aging Firefox 3.5 browser. Mozilla's Asa Dotzler reported that early this month Firefox 4's usage began to show a sharp increase while IE9 continued on a much more gradual climb.

Adobe Flash player will be 10 times more efficient

Adobe's John Nack wrote in a recent blog post that the new version of Flash Player (10.2) will be up-to ten times more efficient than previous versions. The new product comes with a number of upgraded features including mouse cursor options for developers, full-screen playback support for multiple monitors, and IE9 rendering support.

Mozilla’s Firefox engine outperforms Google Chrome’s V8 and Safari Nitro

Mozilla claims that its browser has the fastest SunSpider scores on the planet after its internal tests revealed that the company’s latest Firefox JavaScript engine — which includes the new JagerMonkey extension — outperforms both Google Chrome's V8 engine and Apple Safari's Nitro. The tests, apparently excluded Opera and Internet Explorer. Director of community development Asa Dotzler made the claim on Monday morning with a blog post.
While the new Firefox engine trails Chrome on Google's V8 benchmarks Mozilla has reached a milestone nonetheless.

Opera 10.6: faster Java, geolocation and new WebM support

Opera unveiled the preview its next browser release, 10.6 - featuring support for geolocation and royalty-free WebM video and HTML5 offline web apps.
The app is  supposed to be the next major milestone for Linux and BSD users, since Opera is  skipping an official 10.5 release for those platforms. As the company assures  the new version of the JavaScript engine is up to 75% per cent faster

EU-Microsoft dispute over consumer browser choice comes to end

Long-term dispute between the EU and Microsoft Corp is likely to come to an end next week when EU antitrust regulators will accept company’s amended offer on allowing consumer choice on Internet browsers.

 European Commission was expected to approve Microsoft's plan to make it easier for consumers to choose rival browsers on the firm's Windows operating system, which is used on a majority of personal computers.

Adobe add-on to Firefox turns out spyware

A new malware was developed to attack Firefox users so as to steal the information about their searching habits and then inject ads into the user’s Google search results pages. The malicious code poses itself as an Adobe Flash Player 0.2 update but in reality it has nothing to do with either Adobe or Mozilla.

Microsoft said that starting the third week of April users of IE 6 and 7 on Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2003 and Windows Server 2008 will be receiving notifications through the Automate Update service that encourages them to upgrade their system to the latest IE 8 version of the browser.

First of the main changes introduced to the IE is related to tabs. In cases of accidentally closing a browser window in IE 8, user is able to restore it when the program is reopened. IE 8 uses color coding to group related tabs together.
