Cace: E-commerce expected to grow 100% this year

E-commerce transactions in Argentina are expected to grow nearly 100% in 2006, Argentina's e-commerce trade association Cace's president Marcos Pueyrredn told BNamericas. In 2005, the sector recorded total transactions worth 5bn pesos (US$1.61mn), up nearly 120% compared to 2004. "E-commerce in Argentina is experiencing a boom and we believe this activity will continue to increase over the next few years," Pueyrredn said. Growth in e-commerce segment is being fueled by the increasing number of broadband connections and computers in the country as well as improvements in internet content and services. "SMEs are becoming more conscious of the importance of e-commerce as a tool to reach the market," Pueyrredn added. Electronics, music, books, financial and tourist services, software, hardware, food, and online training courses have seen the most growth. According to Pueyrredn, Argentina has always been one of the regional leaders in e-commerce and e-business along with Mexico, Brazil and Chile.
