Facebook, Google, eBay and 23 more online companies joined under the common name French Association of Internet Community Services (L’Asssociation des Services Internet Communautaires) or ASIC to file a suit against French government this Wednesday. If their efforts fail, the online companies will be obliged to store such data as full names, passwords, mailing addresses and telephone numbers for one year. This information can be demanded by police, fraud investigators, tax authorities and customs.
“This is a shocking measure, this obligation to keep passwords and hand them over to police services,” said Benoit Tabaka, ASIC’s general secretary.
The main argument of ASIC is that this regulation is not approved by the EU.
