As it became known YouTube is now planning to boost the maximum upload length to 15 minutes, giving the site’s millions of amateur directors a bit more leg room.
It’s well known, for years YouTube has enabled its users to upload as many videos as they wanted, but no more than 10 minutes in length, unless user was not part of one of YouTube’s special partner programs.
10 minute restriction was imposed by the company in order to help cut back on piracy. In turn, fifteen minute limit is still going to be irritating in some case, but it’s good to know that YouTube is actively working to extend it.
Explaining this move, YouTube says in its blog that the company spent significant resources on creating and improving its state-of-the-art Content ID system and many other powerful tools for copyright owners. The company also adds it’s able to increase the upload limit today thanks to the success of these ongoing technological efforts.
