Russian agencies submit illiterate applications for domains in Cyrillic .RF zone

According to the Russian media sources over half of the applications submitted for the registration of domain names in the Cyrillic .РФ zone have been written with mistakes and thus declined.

Andrey Vorobyov, a PR manager at the Russian accredited domain registrar RU-Center says: “Of 3,000 applications submitted over a week only 1,117 have been approved while over 1,500 applications have been declined. The applicants take the rules not seriously as their domain names contain not only Cyrillic but also Latin characters while also not fully conveying the trade mark.”

Russia submitted its application for the registration of domains in the .РФ zone on November 16, 2009. The procedures will take about a month after which the registration will start.

Initial registration for the government agencies starts November 25. It is scheduled to end on March 25, 2010. In April 2010 the registration of domains in .РФ zone will be available for anyone. On the first stage the registration of domains in the .РФ zone will cost 10 million rubles ($347,222).
