A study provided by Gartner shows that while there are some sectors in technology industry improving since the worst in a decade recession burst out the damage caused by the economic turmoil may be felt for a few years.
In its report Gartner said that majority of the electronics industries like the consumer, wireless and semiconductor sectors are awaiting the first signs of recovery. However the stability of product demand and effectiveness of government stimulus packages still remains uncertain.
According to Gartner’s report some industries are expected to recover in earnest starting in 2010, they include wireless and semiconductor sectors. On the other hand, some industries will have to wait a few years to achieve highs of previous years.
The reports says that the PC industry makes an exception as there are signs of product demand stabilization in the Q3 of the current year. Gartner said that in the first quarter the PC industry bottomed out in the first quarter, and consumer demand for PCs has remained "better than expected.”
Meantime, other major sectors will have to wait till next year before showing signs of growth. Semiconductor area is expected to recover starting next year. The mobile phone industry will also see recovery in 2010 with the rebound expected to come from demand in emerging markets like China.
The longest term of instability is predicted for the consumer electronics as revenue and unit shipments for many products dropped during the recession. The industry could stabilize in first quarter of 2011, when demand for products reach growth rates prior to the recession, Gartner said.
