Skype revealed its intention to build a channel program, enabling company to offer enhanced services such as support, integration with third-party applications and interoperability, according to the statement of Skype’s General Manager and Vice President Stefan Oberg. That appeared to become a move into business settings as the new service would help companies to save money, boost productivity and stay ahead of the technology curve.
Though he didn’t say when the service is going to be implemented, he announced the program is being in the early stages of development. Oberg named the Skype's penetration in businesses, that is about 35%, as part of "consumerization of IT."
Additionally, Skype recently launched two corporate tools, Skype for SIP and Skype for Asterisk, which leverage corporate VoIP systems to provide companies with the ability to make and receive Skype calls.
Moreover, Skype is continuing to broaden its availability, and in the nearest future, about 90% of smartphones, including BlackBerry devices and the Apple iPhone, will have Skype available for download, as Oberg said at Interop Las Vegas 2009.
