Not very good news emailed to Barclays IT staff
Barclays IT staff has received another email about more jobs being likely to be cut in 2009. The department has already lost 700 staff last year as part of a planned job cuts of 1,800 by 2011 and another 400 people in January whose "roles and responsibilities were unclear".

The recent email, signed by IT boss Jim Ditmore along with Suresh Viswanathan and Ah Boon Lee, warns that Barclays "Global Retail and Commercial Banking" relies on effective technology to drive its growth and predicts 700 job cuts in 2009.

This email, has following three aims: creating a more efficient organization; responding to business demand; and directing the organization into the right shore.

The email pledges: "We recognize that colleagues will be eager to learn more about what this means for them and, therefore, commit to working as swiftly as possible and keeping people informed along the way. We will communicate more about our plans as they progress and you can expect to hear from us within the next couple of weeks."
