Harry Urschel, owner of the staffing/recruiting company e-Executives, stated that many recruiters and hiring managers at companies are nowadays searching for information about candidates online.
However, Sean Ryan, senior vice president of engineering and a hiring manager at online measurement tools vendor Lyris, Inc., said he wouldn’t not recommend hiring managers or HR professionals who would go to a social site "what was intended by the candidate to be … for friends to determine if they're good candidate." He suggested using such sites as Plaxo, a professional social networking site used by the younger crowd along the lines of LinkedIn instead.
There are some others like Chandlee Bryan, a career coach in New York, who check all sites. She added that "Recruiters generally don't search Facebook for candidates, but may review your profile to screen you out" for signs of excess drinking, drugs and other potential problems.
Therefore it seems that today users have to be careful of what’s on their pages on the Internet, as they might lose a potential job while simply sharing information with their friends.
