eBay opposes using fixed prices as it may hurt small businesses

On Tuesday eBay’s Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Government Relations Tod Cohen made a statement at a hearing named “Bye Bye Bargains? Retail Price Fixing, the Leegin Decision, and Its Impact on Consumer Prices". The statement on retail price fixing and its influence on consumers and small enterprises was made after testifying before Congress.

eBay considers that allowing price fixing will deny consumers better deals and greater choice, as well as will threaten small business retailers and the tens of thousands of their American employees.

As for the statement, eBay hopes Congress to take appropriate action to end “this affront to fair competition”, as retail price fixing accepted by Leegin Decision is to disrupt consumer benefits delivered by innovative internet retailers. The company representative says mega-retailers, threatened by the surge of online competition, have unleashed teams of lawyers and lobbyists and used price fixing as a tool to squash competitors.
