Gemalto presents its UpTeq™ mobile TV SIM card
Gemalto, the world leader in providing digital security, announced today its UpTeq™ mobile TV SIM card to be the first to earn the security certification that meets the SIMalliance Security Guidelines. These guidelines apply to Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) Mobile Broadcast Services Enabler Suite (BCAST) Smart Card Profile (SCP) mobile television products.

OMA BCAST is a globally recognized standard for mobile TV designed to ease the integration of an end-to-end mobile television system and specifies a “Smart Card Profile” (SCP), the standard SIM-based Conditional Access System (CAS). The SIMalliance defined Security Guidelines based on security analysis, common security methodology and third party laboratory evaluation, and Gemalto’s UpTeq SIM card is the first to meet such requirements. The estimation was accomplished by the LETI security center in Grenoble (France), a member of the Information Technologies Security Evaluation Facilities (ITSEF).

Gemalto’s UpTeq Mobile TV SIM card provides the required high level of security for mobile digital television that marks a significant step in advancing the take-off of mobile television. Gabrielle Bugat, head of Mobile TV business group at Gemalto, stated that ‘the OMA BCAST specification, the right technological choice for successful deployments, is now ready, and all the required interoperability and security conditions are fulfilled to ensure take-off of the mobile TV market in the coming months.’
