VeriSign, Inc. announced that UK Internet users could use VeriSign® Identity Protection (VIP) on their PayPal account for additional protection of their online identity. PayPal's customers are able to log in to their accounts by receiving a one-time-password (OTP) through a text message (PayPal SMS Security Key) or by using a security token (PayPal Security Key).
Moreover, the VIP Authentication Service supports many other authentication credentials, such as stand-alone tokens, software tokens for mobile phones and credit card-size form factors.
Many leading online businesses globally have joined the VIP Network with the aim of providing their customers with additional identity safeguards. Members of the VIP Network are able to display a special VIP logo signaling that the site accepts a special VIP security credential generating an OTP for each sign-on.
VeriSign's Messaging and Mobile Media division has provided the new SMS functionality offering the latest, in terms of reliability mobile messaging delivery engines in the world. Currently the functionality connects to more than 700 carriers and over 3 billion wireless subscribers in more than 200 countries.
