Michael Joseph Safaricom Chief Executive Officer considers that plans are already at an advanced stage to make the services regional by bringing on board the other Eastern Africa countries. However they are still in the way for Kenyans in the Diaspora to send their remittances back home using the M-Pesa service.
Safaricom has come under intense attacks from banks claiming that the company is offering services like theirs and it could be used fraudulently for money laundering, speculations that are under the government's probe into the accounts of M-Pesa. So the company will engage the Communication Commission of Kenya and the Central Bank of Kenya to guide the service.
Last year treasury ordered the investigations of the M-Pesa dealings as it could be open to abuse.
From this year Safaricom customers will be enabled to pay their electricity and water bills just using their handsets. Now company is negotiating with Kenya Power And Lighting Company and water service companies to work out last decisions for the launching the new services.
